ANZAC Day Picnic, 2006
By admin • Apr 19th, 2008 • Category: archiveReport from ANZAC Day Picnic coordinator.
The BDO this week was the biggest yet and I’d like to begin by thanking all Buddies who participated. However, there were only about 40 who did so, which meant that we all had to bring heaps of food and drink. With 4 buses and 25 cars, we had 200-250 guests. As far as I know we didn’t get any of the Kilcoy workers, but I’d be pleased to hear if that’s not correct.
We chose a public holiday several years ago to have our “biggest day out” in order for the Kilcoy meat workers to be able to attend- ANZAC day this year and last. However, a number of Buddies couldn’t come because of ANZAC Day commitments and so we need to re-think our choice of day and perhaps just choose an ordinary Sunday. This year also with ANZAC Day being a Tuesday, a number of Buddies may have taken an extended weekend.
The obvious point that I’m leading up to is that we need to maximise the number of Buddy hosts for next time- the BDO is so popular with our guests that we don’t want to, and probably can’t impose restrictions on numbers. We’ll talk about it at the May meeting. The BDOs are such joyful events and now that we only hold them twice a year, (the other one with RCSC is much smaller), it would lbe great to maximise our participation. It was especially good to meet several new Buddies, some of whom haven’t been to a meeting yet. We hope to see you many more times.
