The 83 Sri Lankan asylum seekers are still abandoned on Nauru. Among the group is an unaccompanied minor and a 31-year-old with shrapnel in his brain. Despite pleas from his lawyers and family members in Australia, the minister refused to intervene and he was deported from a Perth hospital in June to join the others who have been on Nauru since February. They will all have to wait on Nauru for a third country to accept them which could well see them left there for years on end.
